The problem
Every term, the bursar went to the SACCO
Many schools save and collect fees through SACCOs on FLT's platform. To find out who had paid, bursars travelled to the SACCO and asked for a statement, every term.

A printed statement lists deposits, not pupils, so matching each line to a child was slow, manual work, repeated every term.

Parents pay from a basic phone
Parents pay through FLT's MSACCO USSD menu or app, which connect to MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, or over the counter at the SACCO. I integrated SchoolPlus with MSACCO and FLT's SavingsPlus platform, so every fee payment reaches the school's records.
What I built
The payment arrives already matched
SchoolPlus V1, which I built solo, links each SACCO transaction to the pupil it pays for. The school sees who has paid as it happens, with no trip and no statement.
Outcome
From one tool to the platform schools run on
Once schools trusted the reconciled view, SchoolPlus grew into a full school management system. V2 is a multi-tenant rebuild on Laravel and PostgreSQL. It serves 200+ partner schools, and about a 10% increase in FLT's overall revenue is attributed to it.

Sole builder of V1. I lead backend development on V2.
What I built
- V1, a complete system built solo. It started with direct payment reconciliation, linking SACCO and MFI transactions to individual students so schools no longer needed statements from the SACCO. I expanded it into a full school management system, a Laravel and MySQL monolith in daily production use, which became the proven foundation for V2.
- V2, re-architected for scale. A modular, multi-tenant rebuild on Laravel and PostgreSQL, using Stancl Tenancy for per-school isolation. I led the backend across subjects, grading (the CBC system for O-Level plus the A-Level system), exam sets, marks, report cards (PDF templates for nursery, primary and secondary), academic metrics APIs and attendance.
- At-risk student prediction, live in production. A model built on marks and attendance gives each student a risk score and flags those likely to decline, so teachers can step in early.
- Fee payments integrated with FLT's platforms. Parents pay over FLT's MSACCO USSD menu or app, which connect to MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, or over the counter at SACCOs. I integrated SchoolPlus with MSACCO and FLT's SavingsPlus platform, so each fee payment reaches the school matched to the pupil.
Outcome
More than 200 partner schools use SchoolPlus, and a roughly 10% increase in FLT's overall revenue is attributed to it.
